Fowler’s Mill Website Redesign

Fowler’s Mill Website Redesign

Check out the new Fowler’s Milling Co. website at www.fowlermill.com. We redesigned and launched it after seven months of hard work and dedication. It’s more visually appealing, easier to navigate, and responsive on all platforms (desktop, laptop, tablets and smart phones). Kudos to Chas Foster at Foster Technologies for his web development.

You can find delicious baking mixes like apple crisp, pumpkin bread, or my favorite, blueberry muffins. Also available are specialty items like gift boxes and baskets, syrups or jams. And just in time for the holidays,  Sugar Cookie Mix and Gingerbread Cookie Mix. ~Carla

100% Recyclable Shoes

100% Recyclable Shoes

Adidas has invented a new running shoe made entirely of a single material that uses no glue or solvents in its construction. The idea is called Futurecraft.Loop and evident in its name is the goal of creating a closed recycling loop where the user buys a pair and uses them for a few years, then returns them to Adidas for processing. They are currently in beta-testing and expected to hit the market in 2021.

More details are on the Adidas website.

Pattern Font

Pattern Font

Every quarter we receive an Emigre magazine, a publication that informs us about new fonts. The latest copy is “The Emigre Coloring Book.” The books pages are designed with a new font called “Crackly.” Crackly was designed by Zuzana Licko and is composed from straight lines that intersect at various angles.

The idea for Crackly came from Licko’s ceramic stacked totem sculptures, which are made from modular cones and disks of different sizes and angles. She made herself a font so she could type out various sculpture compositions before assembling them. When Licko was experimenting with the Crackly patterns, it occurred to her that the compositions would make excellent graphics for coloring, so a coloring book was created.

The pattern fonts can be used to make compositions and to generate your own coloring pages. Or use Crackly for any other pattern applications, such as backgrounds.

You can download a free PDF version of the Emigre Coloring Book from the Emigre website. https://www.emigre.com/Fonts/Crackly

Design Interface Legacy Book

Design Interface Legacy Book

We are proud to present the publication of our book, Design Interface Inc. – A Legacy. It records the projects we are most proud of from the past 35 years. Addie Lutzo, our summer intern, was charged with creating the book. The DI team sifted through old boxes and digital archives to come up with the content, then Addie interviewed us to write the story. Her use of patterns, page layout and treatment of photos, along with our art direction resulted in a very handsome book indeed. The 46 page PDF was then sent to PrestoPhoto.com for publication. When it arrived, with it’s glossy white cover, it was like opening a “this is your life” moment. Time well spent!

Alessi: Italian Design Through the Years

Alessi: Italian Design Through the Years

From the original moka pot to Richard Sappers “9090” coffee maker design, to the “Juicy Salif” lemon squeezer by Philippe Starck, Alessi has been innovating and changing the way we look at everyday objects for almost 100 years. During these years Alessi has challenged the idea of “art” and the value of “multiplied art.”

The creative world is ever changing, but there are certain things that we remember and special things that stand out. Alessi is one of those things. Alberto Alessi was known to be a risk taker, and he was able to build off of that to become one of the world’s top design brands. His collaboration with other designers and artists was something that brought the company even further in it’s success. A group of creators ready and willing to push the boundaries of critical thinking, that is how you become great. That is how you grow.

Thank you Alessi for 100 years of design inspiration.

New Designer at Design Interface

New Designer at Design Interface

We are pleased to welcome Anna Woo back to Design Interface. She interned with us in 2017 and recently graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art (2019). Her thesis project was a system for connecting older adults with others and featured a photo system called Avant Garde. She also participated in the IDSA Student Merit Award Presentation and was CIA’s first runner up. Adrian and I enjoyed having her as student. At Design Interface she’ll be working on packaging and medical regulatory compliance. Anna is a native of Dallas, Texas.
