Back in 2010 we had the opportunity to update the design of GE’s roadway streetlights that appear along our highways. They wanted to explore ideas for a sleek exterior housing to contain the electronics and opticals already in place. Using our 3D visualization software (Solidworks) we came back with several possibilities for them to consider. The design had to be flexible enough to accommodate from 1 to 4 light modules which would essentially create four available sizes. Also important was to use fins for heat dissipation and channeling snow or rain away from the top. The streetlight that was ultimately offered can be seen today all over Cleveland’s highways and some parking lots as well.
